Fragrance chemicals can trigger asthma, allergies and migraines in certain people, and cause new cases of asthma in some people.
I developed irritant-induced asthma after being repeatedly exposed to large amounts of fragranced products (air freshener, aerosol deodorizer and hairspray) in 2009 at work. I hope to prevent this from happening to others. I developed this webpage's content starting in 2012, and update it regularly as I find new and credible medical sources.
As a librarian, I discovered there is a wealth of medical research about the health effects of fragrance chemicals. This page contains links to many scholarly and well-researched sources.
Please read, learn and share this research with others.
Speak up to people who wear intrusive fragrances. Help educate them about the negative health effects of fragrance chemicals. Thank you.
